Course Brief
This course provides a short introduction to technical reporting in the coal mining industry. It is aimed primarily at junior and graduate professional geoscientists and will provide delegates with a short history of the development of the various internationally recognised Reporting Codes currently in use in the mining industry. It will also provide a general overview of the background governing these regulatory documents for all commodities, but the focus of the course will be on the coal industry, covering; i) Coal exploration reporting, ii) On-mine technical reporting, and iii)Code compliant reporting of coal resources and reserves.
The primary reference materials that will be referred to during the course comprise the latest versions of the most commonly used Reporting Codes, namely the JORC and SAMREC Codes, and the Canadian National Instrument; (the NI 43-101), together with all ancillary supporting documents such as check lists, guidelines, and explanatory notes used in the public reporting of Coal Resources and Coal Reserves. The public reporting of Resources and Reserves is a statutory requirement for Companies wishing to list on any of the recognised stock exchanges, or seeking project funding from stakeholders in the public sector.
The example documents provided will demonstrate the generally accepted reporting formats covering all aspects of the exploration and exploitation of coal deposits, but will also address specific areas of concern where the standard practices employed in the industry are not well understood, or are poorly complied with. The recommended standard formats allow for better comparison amongst companies across the industry and promote transparency of technical information. These standard formats are required by all stock exchanges, regulatory agencies and financial institutions.
