Course Brief
Operations Research (OR) is a branch of mathematics specifically dealing with optimisation of operations. The objective of OR is to assist in making decisions that results in maximising a defined objective.
Operations research (OR) is used in the mining industry for optimizing processes and improving decision-making in areas like mine planning, scheduling, and resource management. By applying mathematical and analytical techniques, OR helps the industry maximize profit, enhance safety, meet environmental regulations, and improve efficiency in complex scenarios such as determining the optimal sequence for excavating blocks of rock
There are many applications of OR in the mining industry including:
- Mine planning
- Mine scheduling
- Equipment allocation
- Maintenance scheduling
- Process Plant optimisation
- Blending optimisation
- Supply chains
- Exploration
- Shipping
This workshop introduces OR with the objective of assisting participants to determine whether any of their current management decisions can be solved used OR methods.
The workshop will focus on five OR methods and five mining applications, namely:
- Block modelling
- Truck scheduling
- Blending
- Mineral processing optimisation
- Mass Balancing
It is suggested that this seminar is suitable for anyone in the mining industry who makes management decisions that affect profitability.
