Data Management (From a Microsoft Excel perspective)

  • A

Course Brief

This Data Management course provides an opportunity for delegates to consider and learn a variety of data management strategies with a view to identifying optimal approaches to prepare data in formats that allow for appropriate data analysis techniques, largely focusing on three related strategies:

  1. Using relational databases
  2. Data management in Excel
  3. Integration of relational databases in Excel

Understanding Data Management is at first a daunting task.  Data management is often considered the realm of dedicated database managers.  Yet, most engineers and scientists have their own needs to analyse data and either rely on database experts to provide the data in a format they require or to develop their own database management strategies.

There is a middle path. One should be able to understand data management strategies sufficiently to either explain clearly to data management experts the requirements and develop their own efficient and well-structured data management strategies.

In the absence of well-developed data management strategies, there are two common issues:

  1. Data is in a complex format where data analysis methods cannot be easily applied.
  2. Data-handling can be inefficient, or manual.

In addition to this course, there are two other related courses offered by DEKA Dynamics: The “From Fundamental to Advanced Excel” course, and “Exploratory Data Analysis” course, which does not focus on Excel.

OVERVIEW OF THE COURSE

This course focuses on data management from an Excel perspective with a strong emphasis on Excel/Database integration and is divided into 5 sections.

  • Foundational Database Concepts
  • Basic Excel Database Management
  • Relational Databases
  • Advanced Excel Data Management
  • Example of retrieving data from a database for data analysis

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

The target participants are engineering and science professionals (or equivalent) in the mining industry who either manipulate data or analyse data.

Note that for client only specific training, this course can be customised to the client’s needs with a discussion between the presenter and client to define the requirements before the client is presented a formal quotation.
