Course Brief
Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) involves the initial examination and visualization of a dataset to understand its main characteristics, identify patterns, uncover relationships between variables, and generate insights. It is a crucial step in the data analysis process, especially in the fields of mineral exploration, mining and mineral processing.
The course focuses on numerous EDA methods including:
- Statistical analysis and interpolation.
- Classification methods and
- Application of different charts
OVERALL BENEFITS
This course provides delegates with an awareness of both EDA and Classical Statistics with a view to improving mining, mineral processing and exploration strategies.
EXAMPLE APPLICATIONS OF EDA
EDA techniques have various applications in the field of mineral exploration, mining and mineral processing. Here are a few examples:
- Geological data analysis:
- Geospatial analysis:
- Ore grade analysis:
- Environmental impact assessment:
- Predictive modelling:
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This course is designed for any professional who collects data, conducts analysis and wishes to have some insights into the data. HR Practitioners, Safety Specialists, Geoscientists, Environmental Specialists, Planning Engineers, Metallurgists will all benefit from training in EDA.
COMPUTER ENVIRONMENT
The course will involve using Microsoft Excel and VBA (Visual Basic for Applications). VBA is a freely available software language within Excel.
Participants are not expected to develop VBA code- just apply the provided VBA code (made available by the instructor).
Whilst the course is inherently mathematical, participants are not expected to perform mathematical manipulation of equations.
